Dubois Silences Critics with IBF Interim Title Victory
Last Saturday night, heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois silenced his critics with an impressive seventh-round stoppage victory over the previously unbeaten Filip Hrgovic. The win earned Dubois the IBF interim title, setting the stage for a potential showdown with fellow Englishman Anthony Joshua.
Dubois, who had faced previous setbacks against Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, showcased his resilience by notching consecutive victories over Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic. In a hard-fought and entertaining bout, the 25-year-old eventually overwhelmed his Croatian opponent, leading to the stoppage due to the lacerations on Hrgovic’s face and around his eyes.
“It feels great,” Dubois expressed after the win. “Just one step at a time. We’ve got through this hurdle, and now it’s on to the next one. That was a great night tonight, and I enjoyed that. It was a beautiful night.”
Dubois, who had previously been written off by many, has now taken the IBF interim title and is eyeing a future clash with Joshua.
“I’m just anxious to become the best. This is my era, this is my team, and I just need to keep improving and coming through these tests,” he stated.
Promoter Frank Warren praised Dubois’ performance, acknowledging that the young boxer had proven his critics wrong.
“A lot of people outside the ring have questioned his heart, questioned when it gets down to the nitty gritty that he can do it, he’s shown tonight what he’s all about, and he’s won the interim belt, which is brilliant for him,” Warren expressed.
The victory sets the stage for a potential unification bout between Dubois and Joshua, provided the IBF strips undisputed champion Usyk ahead of his December 21 rematch with Tyson Fury. Boxing enthusiasts eagerly await the outcome of this potential all-British heavyweight clash.
