South African Junior Bantamweight Champion Phumelele “The Truth” Cafu Partners with Renowned Trainer and Manager Colin Nathan
Johannesburg, South Africa – In a move that is set to bolster his pursuit of world championship glory, South African junior bantamweight champion Phumelele “The Truth” Cafu has joined forces with renowned trainer and manager Colin Nathan.
Cafu, who is currently ranked No. 4 by the IBF and No. 3 by the WBO, expressed his excitement about the new partnership. “I’ve always wanted to be trained by Nomakanjani [Nathan’s nickname in South Africa], even before I turned professional. And I want to become a world champion, and I believe with Colin, I can achieve my dream.”
The sentiments were echoed by the beaming Nathan, who lauded Cafu as the best junior bantamweight in South Africa, noting his immense potential. “He is so young and so talented, I don’t even think he is in his prime yet.” Nathan also revealed that Cafu’s promotional contract with his current promoter expires on June 15th, paving the way for him to join the Boxing 5 promotional banner under No Doubt Management.
“When Cafu started talking to me, he was clear that he wanted to come up to Johannesburg and train up here with me and be managed by my company. It was really a no-brainer,” said Nathan.
With Cafu’s current rankings, the plan is to secure him a world title shot, and Nathan hinted at an intriguing development in the junior bantamweight division. “It’s going to be interesting to see what happens after July 7th when Fernando Martinez and Kazuto Ioka unify the IBF and WBO titles. Not letting anything out of the bag, but I’ve got something up my sleeve.”
This partnership between Cafu and the seasoned coaching and management duo of Colin Nathan and No Doubt Management is poised to propel the young South African boxer towards his ultimate goal of becoming a world champion in the junior bantamweight division.
