Boxing Fans Eagerly Await Stacked Card with Multiple World Title Fights
Boxing enthusiasts are in for a treat this Saturday, July 20, as the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo will host a stacked card featuring several world title bouts.
Main Event: WBC Bantamweight Title
The main event will see WBC bantamweight champion and three-weight king Junto Nakatani defend his strap against Filipino contender Vincent Astrolabio. Nakatani (27-0, 20 KOs), a former flyweight and junior bantamweight world champion, is coming off an impressive sixth-round TKO victory over Alexandro Santiago to claim the WBC bantamweight title in February. He’ll face the challenge of Astrolabio (19-4, 14 KOs), who is making his second bid for a world title after a narrow majority decision loss to Jason Moloney for the vacant WBO bantamweight crown in May.
Co-Main Event: WBO Junior Bantamweight Title
In the co-main event, WBO junior bantamweight champion Kosei Tanaka (20-1, 11 KOs) will put his title on the line against Mexico’s Jonathan “Titan” Rodriguez (25-2-1, 17 KOs). Tanaka, a four-division world champion, won the 115-pound title in February with a unanimous decision over Christian Bacasegua.
Vacant WBO Flyweight Title
The vacant WBO flyweight title will also be up for grabs, as Japan’s Riku Kano (22-4-2, 11 KOs) squares off against Los Angeles native Anthony Olascuaga (6-1, 4 KOs). Kano is unbeaten in five fights since moving up to flyweight last year, while Olascuaga is looking to bounce back from a title challenge defeat against Kenshiro Teraji in April.
Special Bantamweight Bout
Additionally, the card will feature a special 10-round bantamweight bout between former kickboxing world champion Tenshin Nasukawa (3-0, 1 KO) and Jonathan “Torres” Rodriguez (17-2-1, 7 KOs) of Puerto Rico.
“All three world title fights and the Nasukawa-Rodriguez matchup will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the early morning hours in the United States.”
