In the main event of a ProBox “Wednesday Night Fights” card in Plant City, Florida, Batyrzhan Jukembayev dominated and stopped Ivan Redkach in the fifth round. Referee Christopher Young halted the fight at 2:11 in the fifth, handing Jukembayev (23-1, 17 KOs) the victory in the 140-pound division bout.
Jukembayev Dominates Redkach
Jukembayev had the brighter start, showcasing a relentless offense in the opening round. He landed multiple combinations, punctuated by powerful right hooks, while Redkach (24-7-1, 19 KOs) offered little resistance beyond a few jabs and a sarcastic gesture. The second round saw more of the same, with Jukembayev landing a vicious body shot that echoed through the arena.
Redkach, at 38 years old and having been stopped three times previously, struggled to mount any meaningful offense as the fight progressed. Jukembayev continued to dominate, unleashing a hurtful body attack in the third round that left Redkach cornered and shelled up. Redkach’s corner warned him that they would stop the fight if he didn’t show more willingness to compete.
The fourth round was similarly one-sided, and referee Young ultimately intervened in the fifth to save Redkach from further punishment, despite Redkach’s pleas for one more round. At 33 years old, Jukembayev proved to be the more energetic fighter, landing clean, straight punches to the head and powerful hooks to the body.
Following the bout, broadcaster and analyst Paulie Malignaggi expressed the opinion that Redkach should consider retiring from boxing. Jukembayev, with teammate Terence Crawford in attendance at the ProBox Event Center, remained poised against his faded opponent. The victory sets up Jukembayev for opportunities in the loaded 140-pound division.
