Future Hall of Famer Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez Confirms Opponent for Return to the Ring
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, the esteemed former five-time world champion, has confirmed his opponent for his return to the ring on July 12th at the Alexis Arguello Arena in Managua, Nicaragua. The future Hall of Famer will face off against former WBA world title challenger Rober “El Huracan” Barrera (27-5, 17 KOs) in a highly anticipated 10-round main event.
The event will be streamed live on ESPN+ and ESPN Knockout in Latin America, providing boxing enthusiasts the opportunity to witness Gonzalez’s comeback after an 18-month hiatus. “Chocolatito” was last seen in the thrilling trilogy against Juan Francisco Estrada in December of 2022.
“We are anxious to get back in the ring. This will be a big comeback in my career, and I’m grateful it’s going to be in front of my Nicaraguan people,” expressed the future Hall of Famer, eager to showcase his skills once again.
Barrera, hailing from Monteria, Colombia, comes from a fighting family. His brother, Ronald Barrera, previously faced off against “Chocolatito” in Nicaragua, and now the younger Barrera is seeking to avenge his brother’s defeat, which occurred nearly a decade ago.
“I’m blessed for the opportunity given to me,” stated the former title challenger. “For me, this will be the revenge of my brother’s defeat, who fought ‘Chocolatito’ in 2013.”
The first face-to-face between the two combatants took place today at the Alexis Arguello Arena, drawing a large media presence in anticipation of this captivating boxing event.
