Richard Torrez Jr.’s Crushing Power Overwhelms Brandon Moore in Fifth-Round Knockout
San Diego – Richard Torrez Jr., the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, continued his dominant run in the heavyweight division with a fifth-round knockout victory over Brandon Moore at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego.
From the opening bell, Torrez’s left-handed power-punching was on full display, repeatedly rocking Moore with crushing blows. In the fifth round, Torrez landed a devastating shot that sent Moore reeling backward, and followed up with another punch that knocked him down.
“The final Torrez attack prompted Moore’s corner to throw in the towel, giving Torrez the victory by knockout one minute and 39 seconds into the fifth round.”
The win keeps Torrez’s perfect professional record intact, now standing at 10-0 with 10 knockouts, while Moore suffered his first career loss, dropping to 14-1 (8 KOs).
The main event of the Top Rank card featured Mexico’s three-division titleholder Emanuel Navarrete’s pursuit of the vacant WBO lightweight belt against Ukraine’s Denys Berinchyk.
In the undercard action:
- Debuting lightweight Jonny Mansour, representing nearby La Mesa, California, impressed with a unanimous decision victory over Anel Dudo.
- Emiliano Fernando Vargas, son of the legendary Fernando Vargas, secured a sixth-round technical knockout over Angel Varela.
