Matchroom Boxing Bags Purse Bid for Ennis vs. Crowley Welterweight Title Clash
In a significant development, Jaron Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) will make his Matchroom Boxing debut in his hometown of Philadelphia after his new promotional team emerged victorious in the purse bid for his mandated IBF world welterweight title defense against Cody Crowley (22-0, 9 KOs).
Matchroom submitted a successful bid of $3.9 million, surpassing TGB Promotions’ offer of $2 million, which had been representing Crowley during the negotiation period. The long-running talks between Ennis and Crowley finally concluded after numerous delays and postponements.
According to the IBF rules, the champion Ennis is entitled to an 85% split of the purse, totaling $3,323,500, while the mandatory challenger Crowley, rated No. 3, will receive $586,500.
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn expressed his excitement about bringing Ennis, dubbed “Boots,” back to his hometown for a highly anticipated showdown. “Purse bids were finally called, and we won it [the purse bid],” Hearn said. “We are going to have a massive show incoming for Jaron Ennis in Philadelphia in July. It is time to bring this superstar home to his home city.“
The announcement of the venue and confirmed date for the Ennis vs. Crowley fight is expected to be made in the near future, as Matchroom Boxing aims to deliver a memorable event for the rising welterweight star in front of his Philadelphia faithful.
