Baraou Defends European Title Against McGowan on June 14th
On June 14th, Abass Baraou will make the first defense of his European super welterweight title against Macaulay McGowan. The bout will be promoted by Wasserman and televised by Channel 5.
Baraou, the world-ranked German fighter with a 15-1 (9 KOs) record, captured the vacant belt in March after a hard-fought majority decision victory over Sam Eggington. While his technical prowess has never been in doubt, Baraou showcased a different side to his game, matching the former EBU welterweight champion in heart and grit.

McGowan, a 29-year-old from Wythenshawe, has bounced back well from a difficult spell in his career. After losing three consecutive fights, including a close split decision to current EBU middleweight champion Tyler Denny, McGowan has racked up three victories since. Earlier this year, he shared with BoxingScene his strategy of staying active in the gym and taking low-profile fights to ensure he’s ready for the next opportunity, which has now materialized with this prestigious title challenge.
