Boxing Veteran Navarro Believes Foster Can Dominate Junior Lightweight Division
Veteran cutman Aaron Navarro has been by O’Shaquie “Shock” Foster’s side for years, witnessing the boxer’s transformation from a club fighter to a world champion. On July 6th, Foster will make the third defense of his WBC junior lightweight world title against Robson Conciecao at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Navarro has observed Foster’s (22-2, 12 KOs) remarkable journey, which included a challenging start to his professional career. After two losses early on, Foster found himself in legal trouble back in his hometown of Orange, Texas. However, upon his release, the 30-year-old fighter embarked on a 12-fight winning streak, reviving his career with the support of his dedicated team, including head trainer Bobby Benton, Navarro, and manager Keith Mills.
“I really believe he is going to be one of those guys when it is all over with,” said Navarro. “His trainer, Bobby [Benton] is correct in what he said, nobody has seen 100 per cent of that kid yet as far as what he can do inside the ring, and what we know he is capable of.”
Foster’s breakout moment came in 2023 when he defeated Rey Vargas to claim the WBC junior lightweight title. The triumph was followed by a dramatic 12th-round knockout of Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez, where Foster rallied from behind to secure a hard-fought victory. He then made his Top Rank debut in February, winning a split-decision over Abraham Nova.
Navarro is confident in Foster’s abilities and believes he can unify the junior lightweight division. “I truly believe he can win the other three belts that he doesn’t have if we can make it happen,” he said. “We know in boxing there is business and politics of getting big promoters together, but I truly believe that he beats the other three guys with the belts.”
As Foster prepares to defend his title against the experienced Conciecao (18-2-1, 9 KOs), Navarro’s faith in his fighter’s potential remains unwavering. The veteran cutman is convinced that Foster has the talent and determination to cement his status as one of the best in his division.
