In a highly anticipated super-middleweight bout, England’s Mark Jeffers emerged victorious over his Scottish counterpart Darren Johnstone at the Cardiff International Arena. The decisive moment came when Jeffers landed a devastating right hand in the fifth round, ending the contest and securing the win for the English champion.
Johnstone had put up a valiant effort, withstanding a relentless attack from Jeffers in the fourth round. However, in the early stages of the fifth, Jeffers capitalized on the opportunity, unleashing a barrage of left and right hooks that ultimately led to the knockdown. Jeffers, who is now 18-0 (5 KOs), displayed impressive mastery of the body as well as the ability to find openings for his powerful right hand.
“We all want to win, we all want a knockout, but the main thing is we come out safe,” said Jeffers, demonstrating sportsmanship and concern for his opponent.
In the undercard, Southampton light-heavyweight Lewis Edmondson maintained his unbeaten record, securing an eight-round points victory over Portsmouth’s Joel McIntyre. Welsh middleweight Kyran Jones also continued his winning streak, improving his record to 10-0 (1 KO) with a six-round triumph over Lewis Howells.
Birmingham’s Ishmael Ellis faced a tough challenge against Cardiff super featherweight Kane Shepherd, ultimately succumbing to a third-round stoppage. Meanwhile, Swansea heavyweight Moses “The Native” Jolly extended his undefeated run, outpointing Belgian-based Moroccan Amine Boucetta over six rounds.
