Boxing Fans to Witness Canelo Alvarez’s Experience Triumph Over Jaime Munguia’s Youth on Cinco de Mayo Weekend
As the highly anticipated super-middleweight title clash between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jaime Munguia approaches this Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, boxing analyst Robert Diaz believes Alvarez’s superior experience will be the key to his victory.
Despite the fact that the 27-year-old Munguia is bigger, younger, and more aggressive than the 33-year-old Alvarez, who has 64 fights under his belt, Diaz argues that the Mexican veteran’s wealth of high-level experience will ultimately prove decisive.
“As the fight goes on, I think we’ll see that the experience of the high-level fights, of, ‘I know what I have to do if this comes at me’, but the experience of, ‘I know how to set you up; to put traps to make you do something that’s gonna get you in trouble’… I think that’s what we’ll see, and towards the end – eight, nine or 10 rounds, I can see Canelo stopping Munguia,” Diaz, who worked with both fighters during his 15-year tenure as a matchmaker at Golden Boy Promotions, explained.
While some have suggested that Alvarez’s advanced age and extensive professional career could mean he’s on the decline, Diaz believes the champion’s natural size and talent have allowed him to “cheat” the divisions throughout his career, similar to the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Floyd Mayweather.
“But, Saturday, is it now where father time takes over? Munguia’s young; fresh; hungry; comes in and puts on the performance of a lifetime? Those are all questions we will see,” Diaz added.
Ultimately, the experienced analyst envisions a thrilling fight in which Munguia will enhance his legacy, regardless of the outcome, as he challenges the best in the sport. However, Diaz firmly believes Alvarez’s hand will be raised in victory, cementing his status as the dominant force in the super-middleweight division.
“I can guarantee one thing. The fans are gonna win. Boxing’s gonna win. We will see an amazing fight while it lasts. It takes two to dance; you need a good dance partner. Saturday night, Canelo will have a good dance partner,” Diaz concluded.
