Last-Minute Negotiations Before Ryan Garcia’s Weigh-In for Barclays Center Bout
Ahead of his highly anticipated Saturday bout against Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Ryan Garcia has found himself engaged in last-minute negotiations.
According to reports, Garcia has weighed in at 143.2 pounds, exceeding the super lightweight title limit by 3.2 pounds. The ceremonial weigh-in is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. ET.
It is understood that Ryan Garcia is poised to agree to a payment of $500,000 per pound he is overweight.
Throughout the fight week, there had been widespread speculation that Garcia would struggle to meet the 140-pound limit, with BoxingScene’s Declan Warrington noting that the boxer appeared to be carrying a welterweight frame at the start of the week.
A Golden Boy spokesman has confirmed the situation, stating, “Ryan has weighed-in over his contractual weight. He will honor the handshake made at the final press conference yesterday. We have a fight.”
Devin Haney has subsequently taken to Twitter to acknowledge that Garcia has adhered to the $500,000 per pound stipulation, posting, “Ryan honored the 500k per pound.”
The highly anticipated clash between Garcia and Haney is set to unfold on Saturday at the Barclays Center, with both boxers eager to emerge victorious and solidify their positions in the sport.
