Lipinets Prevails Over Davies in Thrilling Bout
On Wednesday night, Sergey Lipinets and Robbie Davies Jr. engaged in a thrilling 10-round bout at the ProBox TV Events Center in Plant City, Florida, with Lipinets emerging victorious via unanimous decision.
The judges’ scorecards read 95-92, 96-91 and 98-89, all in favor of the 35-year-old Lipinets (18-3-1, 13 KOs). However, the numbers do not fully capture the dramatic nature of the fight, which featured one of the best rounds of 2024 so far. It was a true war of attrition, with both boxers delivering and absorbing brutal punishment.
“It was a symphony of violence,” broadcaster and former world champion Chris Algieri aptly described the fight.
After a couple of feeling-out rounds, Davies (23-5, 15 KOs) began to land damaging blows, rocking Lipinets with a short left hook in the closing seconds of the third round. The 34-year-old Davies continued to press the action, countering Lipinets as he sought another telling shot. And he found it, stunning Lipinets with another left hook.
But it was Lipinets who would score the decisive blows, dropping Davies with a crushing right hand in the eighth round, causing his nose to bleed profusely. Though Davies managed to rise, he was no longer taking Lipinets’ punches as well. In a barnburner of a round, Lipinets floored Davies twice more, with a left hook to the body and a clubbing right hand.
Davies, to his credit, finished the round on his feet, even rocking Lipinets with a left uppercut.
Undercard Highlights
In the co-feature, undefeated heavyweight prospect Fernely Feliz Jr. (8-0, 6 KOs) secured an eight-round unanimous decision over Cesar Navarro (11-2, 9 KOs), weathering an early storm before his superior boxing skills prevailed.
Elsewhere on the card, junior welterweight Tsendbaatar Erdenebat (10-0, 5 KOs) delivered a dominant third-round stoppage of Alberto Mercado, and lightweight Robert Meriwether III (6-0, 2 KOs) showcased his technical prowess in a six-round decision victory over Victor Manuel Lopez Gala (5-1, 3 KOs).
